Styling Ideas

Here are some favorite ideas to style the gorgeous teardrop hoops and azurite malachite and pink sapphire necklace, both currently available at Metier boutique.  These are four great looks but with these pieces, you can’t go wrong, they make the outfit! Looks courtesy of  Polyvore

Jewelry Making Tools

Before I really knew how to make jewelry, I… didn’t! I think I thought fine jewelry was made by little elves. Here are some of my favorite and most necessary and useful tools in my studio! Stay tuned for a later blog post on how I use these tools!

Wax carving tools and digital calipers for measuring

Tweezers and holders of all kinds and eye and mouth protection with a flexible shaft machine

Mandrels and soldering equipment

Fall Scarves Round Up!

Besides jewelry, one of my favorite accessories to put on before I leave the house is ALWAYS a scarf. Scarves are so versatile and are just a lovely addition to an outfit, not to mention a great gift! Here are some of my favorites for this season.  And of course, all of these would look stunning  with any of my pieces!

Missoni Metallic Fringe Edged Scarf from www.luisaviaroma. A great final touch to a neutral outfit of fitted jeans, brown boots and any top you’d like!  http://tinyurl.com/yzgky6q

This cashmere plaid scarf from Ulla Johnson is such a cozy addition to a fall outfit and a great sophisticated, subtle plaid From Otteny http://tinyurl.com/ygg5zr5

This Franco Ferrari Pan Di Zucchero Scarf has got to be my favorite, and is definitely on my christmas list :) – it is like the perfect worn in grey t-shirt, but in soft cashmere. This scarf from La Garconne is the perfect fall topper! http://tinyurl.com/yhcgucw

This lovely lavender scarf from Bajra is the perfect shade to perk up a bleary dreary fall day. And the handspun details are gorgeous. A nice alternative to winter white!  Also available in other colors, from Ultimo http://tinyurl.com/ygs8v7t

This Dupatta Pom Pom Scarf from Matta will carry you from winter to spring and look just as great over a linen summer dress as with a fall blazer! From Calypso http://tinyurl.com/yzk2fgg

Virginia Johnson is one of my favorite textiles designers and makes great scarves and shawls! The colors are so lovely and truly pop! The gorgeous green on the left is from shopbop and the blue on the right is on sale at virginia johnson’s website. Both are excellent picks! http://tinyurl.com/yhzp348 and http://tinyurl.com/ykpu6fn

Epice scarves are another favorite of mine! This one from Auto is just gorgeous!

Sete di Jaipur scarves are so fun with a greate exotic twist, I know they will make a fantastic addition to any woman’s closet! Two images on left from Australian site fifiluxe.com and the scarf on right from Shopatchurchill. http://tinyurl.com/yga2wxr and  http://tinyurl.com/yhm9n88

And last but not least this Lala Berlin scarf from Brownsfashion is so much fun! http://tinyurl.com/yzg4wnq

Getting To Know JW / A Few Of The Designer’s Favorite Things!

Hi guys! Since we’ve just updated the website I figured it was definitely time to update the blog! And what I want to share with you is some of the things that make me happy and inspire me on a daily basis :) Yes, they are just things, but they bring a smile to my face!

Vintage and exotic textiles. I am so inspired by textiles of all sorts! I love to translate textile themes to my jewelry. I love collecting them whenever I take a trip, and they make the most wonderful keepsakes and presents. My sister got me these gorgeous textiles on the right and made into pillows with this luxurious blue fabric I chose. Every time I look at one of these brightly colored textiles or scarfs they brighten my day!

My pup. My first dog (aside from my golden retriever jake, whom I had when I was growing up) Callie is a red miniature australian labradoodle. She is now 11 months old – to the day! oh my god! and is a bundle of energy and joy. She loves people more than any creature I have ever met and I have seen her bring so much happiness and joy to people’s lives with such limited interaction that I am amazed. She has soo much personality in her 17 pounds!

Raw Food esp. desserts  I am a proud vegetarian and try to eat vegan and raw vegan as much as possible! Sometimes its more than others. But I absolutely LOVE raw desserts. I am a sucker for all of the amazing cookies from Pure Food and Wine, which I usually get shipped from One Lucky Duck — chocolate chip and gingersnap are insane. If I had these around everyday I wouldn’t ever eat non -raw desserts :) I am also a huge fan of Cafe Gratitude’s raw tiramisu (and I’m not usually a tiramisu fan) this is creamy and amazing as well as their key lime and “pumpkin” pies. I grew up eating my grandmother’s key lime pie and this truly competes. And is dairy, gluten, etc. free. These show that healthy ethically produced products can be delicious too! Cameras for capturing every moment. I love photography and have since my first trip to Paris at age 10! My favorite two cameras of the moment are my Nikon D80 with a 105mm macro and a mini canon powershot. They both take lovely sharp photographs. The little canon is adorable and fits easily in a pocket or bag. Its really fun to be able to capture a great shot without having to carry my nikon on me at all times – but I adore the photos when I have my nikon on me

Fresh flower gardens – When I pass a home whose owner has spent the time to cultivate her garden (couldn’t resist the voltaire reference!) it really touches me. Bright well-tended and much loved flowers (esp. huge roses, gorgeous!) bring new life to city streets. I also love visiting all the flowers in Golden Gate Park – the below flowers were taken there and the flowers were so gorgeous and luscious in the afternoon light. Photos with my D80 and 105mm macro lens

Wood furniture. I take a lot of my photographs on reclaimed peroba wood from the amazon! The textures inspire me and I can’t wait to outfit my house and studio with more pieces!

Tea. I love tea. It helps me set the mood in the morning for whatever work I have to do, whether its creating designs, or manufacturing pieces or paperwork. I have a LOT of tea. Some of my favorites are rosebuds or pure peppermint, super simple ! I picked some rosebuds up a couple of years ago in hong kong and they are so great, just drop a few in hot water and add agave and its a great tisane! Rose flavored tea is wonderful as well, but this is a great late night alternative for me! I’m also a huge. huge. HUGE fan of mariage freres tea. When I lived in Paris I would go in there and walk out with pounds of tea. The most amazing flavors. My favorite is wedding imperial, with caramel and vanilla. New favorites are almond cookie rooibos from Sympathy from the Kettle, in one of my favorite neighborhoods, the East village, in NYC and blueberry rooibos from Rishi. I first tried this at Cafe Gratitude, the raw vegan restaurant in sf. Their almond milk blueberry rooibos latte is to die for! Especially for non milk drinkers :) amazing!

Current elliott jeans. These are the most comfortable jeans ever! They feel as though you could sleep in them. As soon as I found these jeans, a little over a year ago, I knew I’d be hooked! And I am ;) Very few jeans have captured my heart like these. Jeans part of my daily uniform! A big change from my investment banking days. Nothing chicer than perfect jeans paired with ballet flats (I’m partial to seasons old metallic chanel) or boots (grey suede = perfection) and a fun jacket. Anyone interested in functional and cute clothing MUST check out the swacket from harputs market. I’ve worn it almost daily since buying it. Up next on my list are their tshirt dress and the three hole dress. Avant guard yet wearable. Truly wonderful san francisco style!! http://harputsmarket.com

Music! I think music is an integral part of any creative process, at least it is for me! I am fortunate to live with a total aficionado and he has introduced me to some great artists. I love classic rock and can always create to CCR, The Band, Cat Stevens, but as of late I’ve been totally inspired by Passion Pitt, Dr. Dog, Beirut, Miike Snow and MGMT.  I think what music you are listening to when you make art translates directly to what you make!

Healthy beauty products – I love socially and ethically responsible companies and Rose Marie Swift, a long time makeup artist has created a wonderful company RNM beauty with products I feel comfortable putting on my skin! http://www.rmsbeauty.com/ Lovely high end products that are also good for you, no more putting chemicals on my face! Candles – another ingredient in creating my design ambiance is candles! I love to design when I have a nice clean apartment, nice light streaming through the windows, some great music playning and NANCY BOY CANDLES!! There are so many fun fancy candles out there, but I adore these. http://www.nancyboy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_29&products_id=47 I first found them on hayes street in the charming hayes valley area of san francsico because everytime I walked by their tiny store I was overcome with the most amazing calming soothing scent that wafted into the dirty street. It was as though a spa was permeating the area! And once I finally figured out what it was, I’ve been hooked since! These are truly great. Lavender, rosemary and peppermint are natural and intoxicating! They help to turn my den into a sanctuary of sorts! Image from Nancy Boy.

And last but not least, one of my favorite pieces from this collection! Gorgeous 14k teardrop bangles. These look amazing in stacks of 4 and can be combined in a bunch of different way.
